Augmented Reality Interface for Measurement of Tissue Stiffness

In this paper, we present an implementation of an augmented reality interface for measurements of tissue stiffness using the tactile sensor. a developed augmented reality system provides real-time visualization of tissue stiffness measurements. A head-mounted display with a small video camera and a notebook computer are employed. Tracking of real-world objects is performed with a marker attached to a patient body. Results of stiffness measurements are depicted as semi-transparent three-dimensional objects projected on the patient’s body. Experiments show that the system behaves satisfactory and provides reasonable frame rates and picture delays. The developed augmented reality hardware-software system can be employed in medical-physics measurements.
